A neighborhood eatery that melds French country cooking with American country products. French dishes made with the freshest ingredients, in a room where you are warmly greeted and served.
We lovingly refurbished a 1925 Del Ray house to feel like a home away from home, an old Virginia farmhouse where you can come casual and relax.
Laurent Janowsky, who owns Del Ray Café with his wife Margaret, grew up in the Alsace region of eastern France. He picked wild mushrooms and berries in the Vosges Mountains and cooked daily with his grandmother. He dreamed of a casual Alexandria eatery where folks could pop in for fresh, simply prepared French country fare and feel like they had walked into a good friend's home. Del Ray Café is the culmination of that dream.

Reclaimed pinewood floors, restored vintage lanterns, an antique mirror, and whiskey barrels turned into rain barrels.
New & efficient
A state-of-the-art energy-efficient kitchen, on-demand hot water, low-flow fixtures, and a full recycling and composting program.

Carryout is available for our brunch menu, dinner menu, and to-go chicken dinners. Please be advised we may have to decline on extremely busy days, as our kitchen is small.
